In this shady front garden the standard lawn turf was struggling so we replaced it with pearlwort (Sagina subulata) and suitable planting to frame the edges. This lawn substitute flowers, can take limited foot traffic and is more appropriate for urban gardens which are inevitably shaded for a part or all of the day. Shade and standard lawn turf aren't good partners.
