I have one foot in gardening and one foot in design. I take on projects which have a combination of planting and garden design with soft and hard landscaping elements. Below are a selection from recent years:
2021
East Dulwich

We designed and installed a new planting and hard landscaping layout for a small garden in East Dulwich. This included a new fence, shed, greenhouse and pond.
The primary design goal was to replace the lawn with bigger borders and provide more planting space.
These pictures were taken at the time of planting. As the garden matures and fills in they'll get updated.

We were asked to rebuild a well-used wooden deck which had become dangerous with rotten boards and worn metal patches.
The entire structure was stripped back to the joists which were replaced.

The deck was 20ft above the ground over a 45 degree sloping rear garden. Luckily we don't suffer from vertigo!

The finished product.

Custom glazing and metalwork were also put in.

A treated softwood was used, from FSC certified sources.

A set of reclaimed York stone steps put in for a customer with some difficulty in walking. The longer term view is they may also be used with a wheelchair, hence the width.
A gravel channel runs down either side, to redirect water during wetter months, like a tiny wet/dry stream. In bigger landscapes these are referred to as a 'winterbourne'.

Hammersmith
Between the various lockdowns I redesigned a London courtyard garden. Planting design used native and exotic shrubs and perennials, with an emphasis on scent and silver/white foliage. Soil was re-used onsite and reclaimed stone was used for paving.

2019
I was selected as one of London College of Garden Design's winners in its Border Competition for the 2019 Belvoir Flower Festival. The garden was supported by Provender Nurseries and CED Stone.
I designed a show border for a changing climate, selecting perennials and shrubs perhaps too tender to grow even 10 years ago. With warming weather these are now viable plants in the UK, particularly in the south-east.
